Chhatbir Zoo - Travel Destination in Chandigarh

The full name of the Chandigarh zoo is Mahendra Chaudhary Zoological Park, Chhatbir zoo, but its commonly known as Chhatbir zoo. Chhatbir zoo in Chandigarh is one of the must visitl place when you are in or around Chandigarh. Chhatbir zoo is located at around 17 km from Chandigahr on Patiala highway ( Take right turne from the Zirakpur flyover and it about 15 - 20 minutres dirve from there). Zoo if famous for its lion safari and royal bengal tigers. You will also find around hundreds of different birds, mammals, reptiles and other wildlife creatures.

You can park you car in the parking slot and take the zoo safari a batery opreated vehicle that take you throughout the zoo, you are even allowed to take your car into the zoo with a moderate fee of Rs 250 but its not so exciting than roaming around the zoo by foot.

On enterting the zoo from the left you will find different species of monkey inlcuding himalayan monkeys and various other ones. Once you pass that area you will got to see Deers, Hippos and the royal Bengal tigers. Then there is a huge area for the big elephants. Passin that you can get to see the alon Austrich and then you can take the ticvkets for Lion safari which is no doubt an unforgettable experience as you face the lions from very clost distance. Then you can visit other parts of the zoo that have various birds, reptiles and mammals like Parrots, swans, crocodiles, python, deer, Zebra and many more.

Canteen facility is also there in the zoo but its advisable to carry your own food or snacks as the quality of the food in the zoo is not that good. Overall you will enjoy the trip to the zoo.

Rose Festival in India

In the month of February end the biggest Rose Show is held at the famous the Zakir Hussain Rose Garden at Chandigarh (North India). During this three-day festival you can see different varieties of roses and basking in there sweet fragrance.

Types of Roses:

ALBA: It is mostly white flowered that only bloom once.

BOURBON: These types of roses are very fragrant and they repeat bloomed

CENTIFOLIA: It is also known as the Cabbage Roses it looks like cabbages, usually it have over 100 petals and bloom once only.

DAMASK: Damask come in red, white and pink color.

HYBRID CHINA: Repeat flowering

HYBRID GALLICA: These roses are totally thornless, and they come in red, pink and purple color and have a strong fragrance.

HYBRID PERPETUAL: Come in red or pink color, Very fragrant and repeat flowers

MOSS: A moss rose blooming once they can be yellow, orange, white or multicolored.

PORTLAND: They are in pink color and repeat flowering

TEA: Come in pink, light yellow or white colors and are repeat-blooming.
